Confidence is highly coveted, yet often elusive. High-energy music – Getting ready to request a raise or ask someone a big favor? Find your music and just press “play.” Researchers from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University found that listening to bass-heavy tunes may have the power to make you feel more confident.
Recall a past success – Making everyone laugh in your last speech, nailing that job interview, publishing a well-written piece — whatever it is, those moments of confidence can make an impact when you’re not feeling your best. Channeling a moment when you were genuinely captivating can make you feel (and as a result, act) more confidently.
Nail your morning routine – Those first few minutes when you put yourself together in the morning aren’t just crucial for starting your day — they can bring a surge of self-confidence, too. Turn it into a mindfulness opportunity: Prep your TO DO list and clothes the night before; Get up a few minutes earlier; Think of five things you are grateful for; and then, set an intention for your day. Focus on being in the “now” as you commute to work.
Purposefully select your clothes – Chances are you’ve heard the old adage to “dress for success” — and there’s a reason these cliches have longevity. Studies suggest that what you’re wearing can have a direct effect on how secure and powerful you feel. Clothes aren’t just a device of perception, but a tool that can really affect how you perceive yourself.
